| Welcome to the Northwest Georgia Antique Tractor & Engine Club, Inc. We are a non-profit organization dedicated to the preservation, restoration and promotion of antique farm machinery. We invite you to join us on the second Thursday of every month in Dalton, Georgia for dinner and our monthly meeting. In the early 1900's the North Georgia area was made up of many small family farms. The farmers production was very limitied. Horses were often the tool of choice for farm chores, but they were slow and required the use of a great deal of man power. By the early 1940's WWII was bearing down and with much the work force dedicated to fighting the war and with the need to produce food and other farm commodities more important than ever, the small farm tractor became an ecnomical and necessary solution to the farmer's problems. The North Georgia farmer had to work very hard and make many sacrifices to own a tractor, but the added productivity made it a wise investment. These sturdy little machines worked diligently day after day and year after year until they became almost like a part of the family. In the mid 1960's industry came to North Georgia and carpet replaced cotton. Small farms were becoming a thing of the past and in many cases the trusty tractor was retired and left to rust. In 1998 the Northwest Georgia Antique Tractor and Engine Club was founded to unite individuals who take pleasure and enjoyment to restoring these tractors back to their original glory and sharting them with others. |
